Soviets are way tough?

I play mostly with my buddy co-op. I play all the factions save for the Brits, but usually prefer OKW. Toss me in any random map vs a computer opponent on hard and I generally win, except for the Soviets. The penals blow up the building my machingunners are in early with satchel charges, assuring them map control. Later the cheaper than dirt conscripts disable my very expensive vehicles with their anti-tank grenades. Don't even get me started on the Zis gun and how hard it is to decrew. I've tried it many times, but am unable to solve the Soviet puzzle. Is it just me?

You should try to play vs human opponents and play the opposing site as well instead of just axis or OKW.

Then you will learn the game and the answer to your question in -by far- the most efficient way. :)

I don’t play co-op so not experienced with an opponents but so me of the problems you describe can be solved. Mgs need to get out before or as the satchel is thrown. You can see the penals start the animation and you want to bait them to throw it to use their munis. Generally don’t spam mgs though as they don’t bleed the opponent - just delays them. You need grens + mortar to actually kill stuff supported by 1-2 mgs. As to at grenades obviously you need to kite them but if you kill more soviet infantry early it will be harder for them to make this work.

Mortars clear zis guns quite quick

PvP or PvE, the Soviets have a very well-rounded army (+commanders) without any major drawbacks or weaknesses. So yes, they are hard to fight.

How to fight them is too much to write down - I suggest watching popular YouTube commentators casting replays of high level games. Best channels are: AECoH, Stormless, Tightrope, GeneralsGentlemen and The Propagandacast.

For example, you'll see the top players escorting their vehicles with infantry or support weapons as much as possible so enemy infantry doesn't get a chance to get close enough to throw AT grenades.

Like I said I play all the factions, just not the brits. Playing as Soviets is almost too easy though. Nobody has anything that can deal with that early T70 usually, and the Penals just rape the infantry. Makes denying the fuel points a joke for the most part.

With the setup/teardown time I'm not sure I could clear the MG team from a building in time even if I was there, it just seems crazy overpowered that the satchel charge reliably brings down buildings long before any other faction has anything that could do so.

The OKW does not have a mortar, though I generally end up stealing theirs. The field gun does help though as it doesn't seem to be dangerous enough to decrew a six man squad in my experience.

I'm probably not aggressive enough against the CPU. I should probably work on boxing him into his town. There mortar sucks and their MG isn't great either, but the Penals more than make up for it.

As far as AI goes, soviets are the strongest faction right now in the early game. A lot of the tools other factions need to be tough are very hard to program into the AI. When I test maps the Soviet bot always has the best score. Late game axis is very tough since the bot cheats and has so much extra fuel income.

That said, the AI has a hard time dealing with MGs. If they are satcheling you that fast/easy you may not be microing your MG enough. Most games you can set an MG in a building and forget about it because the AI does not know what to do. You can select your MG and then select the unit you want it to focus on to try and stop them beserker penals :)

If conscripts are snareing your vehicle easily you must not be "kiting" the cons. IE stay about two or more vehicle lengths away at all times. The cons can only snare you if they get closer than about 1.5 - 2 vehicle lenghts. Never drive right up to them.

The ZiS barrage is a one time thing. Just move the unit they are shooting at and you are safe until they can barrage again.

And as always never give your unit commands to go places because the AI uses this information to counter you. Always use attack move or tell your units to go much farther than you really want and remember to stop them.

Just make MGs, soviets have little counters to mg spam. Only semi decent thing is zis barrage, but if you make the soviet build a zis you already won lul

If I place brits up against the trash Japanese faction bet they'll have a 100% winrate. Can't even prove me wrong.

Probably because Soviets are actually good while USF and UKF have major flaws that are easily exploited. IMO OKW, Soviets, and OST are all very well balanced against each other at the moment. The issues lie completely with USF and UKF matchups.

OKW also had a 70% win rate against UKF. Soviets dont get to face UKF. Even if it wasn't that many games that will skew the win rate up.

No its bc USF and UKF are bad and need buffs.

OKW and OST are fine/balanced vs Soviets, the only well balanced allied faction. Instead of nerfing the axis USF and UKF should get buffs to fix their glaring issues (something that will likely be fixed in the commander patch for UKF).

From my perspective: Sovs, OST and OKW are very well balanced.
USF with Pershing are OP. USF without Pershing are waaaay too UP.
And UKF I dont know, is a strange faction: OP units but UP faction as a whole.

So I played another one last night against Soviets, and and instead of going VP I went annihilation and was very aggressive in boxing him into his town. It was trivial and the game was quickly over. He never produced a vehicle save for a couple of scout cars and a SU-76. I usually play attrition/vp and once I have all three VPs and both the fuel points I'd kind of sit and wait which obviously didn't work out very well for me. I even captured his Zis gun as he advanced it unsupported. So I guess the key with the soviets is to just be aggressive.

sov is the best allie faction which require much less micro and less skill to deal with your enemy. 6 model squads which aree very effective vs most targets...the very good units...the less wipes...you can be bad..but would have the best winchance with them.

u have as sov so much wiping potencial with the msot of ur units...they will wipe your enemy..

its every time a supriese how easy it is with them. no wonder that most allie players pick them.

Wipes 80% of the time depend on your ability to take and leave engagements then model count. If a 6 man squad will be waiting to last model, it'll be wiped just as easily as 4 man squad waiting for last model before retreating.

Soviets are also mostly picked for exact same reason wehr is - they are part of BASE game, which people get first from promotions, discounts and humble bundles.

u use every moment to dumb yourself, right?

so...you wanna tell us that is the same issue to lose a 6 model squad like a 4model squad which wipe much more often be the first hit from tanks, grenades, indirect fire and so one?

and if u could count you would realize that you must often retreat your wher sqauds when losing 2 models...and not like a 6model sqaud where you can lose 4 models and will have even than the same chance to not get a wipe.

sov is the bets faction to learn the game when you start wioth this game. wehr is maybe the best in the hands from the best...in the hands from starter and well know player...sov is totally easy...


if u would suggest ost over sov to a starter ---you would be evil.

ost has so many issue...but strength when u master them.
