Halo Wars 3 revealed (cancelled pitch/pre-production art style):
Microsoft official approved this "disclosure", perhaps they are “testing the waters”?.

"Surprisingly I got the all clear from Microsoft to show this cancelled pitch material," Wright wrote in the description. "We did some proposals for Halo Wars 3, I had to introduce space battles into the game style, as well as having your capital ship as your home base, to prep your ground forces."
The description has since been removed and replaced with "Halo Wars 2 additional work done for Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2. Property of Microsoft." Wright has given no explanation as to why the change was made.

A new collection of concept art reveals details of a Halo Wars 3 pitch that featured space battles and XCOM-esque base management.

Halo Wars 2 managed to capture the feeling of Bungie’s famous franchise but wasn’t that intense of a strategy game. A handful of art, shared by Creative Assembly concept artist Brad Wright, offers a glimpse into a pitch for Halo Wars 3 that would have expanded the scope of combat and added additional strategy elements.

The pitched artwork helps break down a base management system where players could customize and outfit their main spaceship with various rooms. Players would be able to hover over them to reveal their stats boost, as well as zoom in to explore in more detail. These rooms could be upgraded to affect ship performance in space battles. It highly resembles the way players expands their base in XCOM, with new rooms offering benefits to soldiers and defenses.

While this particular pitch was canceled, it offers an intriguing look at some of the options Creative Assembly were considering for the next game. Maybe some of it will carry over to a third Halo Wars, if that ever happens. I’d love to manage my own giant, Spartan-filled space base.

You can look at all the art here. It’s awesome.

This game will have 1 second-loop fighting animations again. Infantry will behave like robots like it as command and conquer 1999. why does no RTS dev ever address that?

Why would they? People buy their shit and the development is rushed and time for proper animation is usually left out. With consequetive titles, it is always build on the previous games unfortunately.

Aye, I would like to see more RTS games have better unit behaviour and such. CoH was and still is called the best strategy game of all time because of its innovation. A cinematic level of animations, cover system, semi-realistic armor, squad-ai, etc. The fact that the battles can look like a movie with just a little bit of camera-work is bloody fantastic. Most of that is still in CoH2, but some important things have been nerfed (less animations and near no squad-ai). It's still a respectable experience, however.

So many RTS games dont have these things that would enhance the experience. Even the Wargame series, which you would think would at least have something like proper cover, is sorely lacking. The only cover it has are forests and buildings, and buildings seem to be the only one that properly reduces damage. It makes sense, buildings are pretty simple to do. Bloody starcraft has the bunkers and such. In- fact, the Infantry element of wargame is just balls. They look horrible and behave like light tanks without any good weapons.

If we do get a Halo-Wars 3, I sincerely hope that its not just another traditional RTS, and has more innovative elements than its predecessors. I know Developers and Publishers alike might find this a scary prospect, possibly alienating the "casual" crowd, but I don't think that's the case. Casual gamers are people who can learn, anybody who plays the game can get used to it and better at it. I was bloody sh*** at Wargame, got me arse kicked wherever I went. Now I only get it kicked half the time, and it just so happens I learn something from every kicking.

Really, learning new things about the game is the enjoyable part of it. You play the game to learn it, and if there's nothing to learn, you get bored and stop playing it.

Oooo this turned into a rant, very sorry about that.
