So apparently, with the implementation of an official central server, sync hack is still possible.
Matched against this same team a couple times and this is not the first time a sync hack occurred RIGHT AFTER they lost most of their armies.

Tell me this isn't a coincidence because I don't believe the timing can be so absolutely perfect.

The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
