CoH2 - FPS

So I've stop playing CoH2 like a 2-3 months ago, becasue after some update I noticed that around 20min I'm dropping FPS to something like 15-20.

Yesterday I launched CoH again and it was fine.
But today I just finished a game which was unplayable for me from around 18min. FPS was terrible.

Is it me or CoH2? Why it happend so suddenly, I mean I was playing with quite nice FPS but then someday it dropped so hard.

The frame rate deteroriates the longer a game goes on, usually, presumably due to more units, deformed terrain, etc. I feel like some maps are worse than others (Rzhev being the worst offender in 2v2 at least, not sure why). Also, player count understandably plays a role; 1v1 is a lot less taxing than 4v4.

If it just suddenly drops in an instant, then I don't know. To me it usually starts out with 80-ish FPS and then drops to 40-25 depending on map, game length and player count.

No. it's not laptop, nor slowly dropping.

I used to play on this laptop for over a year without any issues.
Not to mentions that I run plenty games on high details. It was for a year, now sucks - whole other games still work fine.

It's sudden drop. Everything is smooth and cool then suddenly I move cursor and it "sharp" move with like 50% less FPS and it remanis like this till the end of the game.

Nothing to do with playing on a laptop. I play on an i7 laptop with GTX 760M on medium-high settings and it runs better than on some PCs set to potato graphics. FPS is not that high but doesn't go lower than 30 except during off-map strikes like incendiary bombing etc.

That was issue with my older laptop (drop when off-maps).

I just wonder with someone noticed similar problem 2-3 months ago.

I play with a i5 3570k at 4,2 GHz and a GTX 970 overclocked 1425MHz and 8 gigs of ram. In a 1v1 my frame rate starts dipping at around 20-25 minutes, usually as low as 40 fps. When I play a 2v2, it stays north of 45 for some reason, but starts to lower from 60 at the 20-25 minute mark too. When I play 4v4 things can go as low as 25 fps.

This game is a pile of unoptimized garbage. It all got worse with performance after WFA release.

if it is a sudden drop, it can be heat throttle or you might have ran out of vram?

if it started to happen recently, that is a mind boggler. i'd say sudden drop in performance is prob something on your side.

Well but it's kinda strange that I don't face such problems with any other game.

Yesterday I got drop again, but it lasted for like 20-30secs and came back to normal :/

This is what I'd be leaning towards. Might be worth checking whether you have a dust buildup in the fan system. A good blast of compressed air might help.

Also, I'd have Process Explorer running in the background. It will help you determine whether something is suddenly bottlenecking, and covers more hardware than Task Manager (such as aforementioned VRAM).

Thanks, I'll check this Explorer.

As for dust, not a chance. I opened laptop like 2 months ago and used compressed air to clean it a bit inside.

It does sound like throttling. One thing I've done to avoid it is I got a cooling stand for my laptop. And I've noticed that whenever I don't switch the stand's cooler on the game will begin to drop FPS as the GPU begins to throttle minutes into the game (including main menu), whereas if the cooling fan is on there is no FPS issue. Might be something you want to consider if it is throttling indeed and if you don't already have a cooling stand.

Ok. Laptop cooling can still be a bit tricky though, so maybe also grab RealTemp to see how your CPU temperature goes. I'd also be curious about GPU temp. I guess at this point, the more things you can rule out, the better :p

Obviously a second monitor would make this stuff a lot easier to check while you game.

So I chekced temperatures before launching CoH2 and just after a game.

CPU: 55C / 73C
Disk: 43C / 34C
GPU: 45C / 67C

Those temperatures looks really high.

I've played on an i7 + 950M gaming laptop before, but CPU temps hover around the mid 60s and GPU high 50s when I have a laptop cooler running. Getting an external laptop cooler may solve your problem.
