no matter what faction i play, this map always crushes me against high level axis players
doesnt matter which faction, the map is too small to do good flanks and the cutoffs are quick to reach (sturm+kubel rushing is a meta strat to do)
two mgs can lock down almost the entire map and create unflankable situations because there is obviously an infantry blob covering it
its just so easy to play extremely passive and defensive because everything is so close to your base, very little risk to just stay back
for example, say if ostheer gets top spawn, 2 mgs, a mortar, sniper, a pak, 3 grens create already create an incredibly tough brick wall to break by simple camping those 2 buildings near the fuel and mid
as soon as stug spam and panzer 4 support rolls out, its pretty much over
cant veto this map either because im all out of vetoes on more bullshit maps, but im considering honestly vetoing this
every engagement is long range, extremely open maps perfect for mg lockdowns, and to top it off the fuel point for top is near unpunishable if your axis
need langres help

If you are playing USF, you are really required to throw down smoke at least once per engagement. Those grenades are necessary, mortar option or no. But now that there are mortars for USF, use them to your advantage against those MG rushes.
Run a riflemen squad to the flank of a building with an MG, then run another riflemen into the arc of fire. Close towards the building with the other rifle. Move around the corner each time the MG pops out the window. Those base weapon crew mp40s deal like, zero damage, so don't be afraid to point blank them, even in a garrison. Just keep rotating around the building.
For every MG your opponent has, match it with a rifle squad that stands in their arc drawing fire while another rifle moves around the arc. Do this until the MG wall closes, then barrage with mortars. By that time the axis has invested all their manpower in MGs, which are easy targets for indirect fire and vehicles.
If you are playing Soviets, you're going to have a bit of a tougher time. Forget about T1, buffed penals or not. Their AI capabilities needed improvement but it still wasn't why T1 sucks for Soviets. Try and rush a maxim or two into the building on the right or the by the center VP. If you're finding MGs or an early mortar from the Ostheer, get a mortar out (or hold out and go guard mortar for that sweet sweet 120mm). Play the rock-paper-scissors team weapon game across those central hedges.
Have nothing to say about Brits.

USF and Sovs are covered, so I'll add Brits.
Mortar Pits are your best friend here, especially against Ost since he's being forced into tight quarters with you as well. If you're bottom, you can use the hedges as cover and use an MG in a nearby building to cover the mortars. Plant some mines around the buildings and chokepoints in the hedges and you should be good. I would also get Bren guns quickly, especially vs. OKW. The open design and small size means your Brens will work wonders while the mortars force him to come to you early-mid. I also suggest AEC, especially against the Luchs, since it'll be hard to prevent light vehicles from skirting an AT gun's arc and murdering your units.
