Crashes followed by patching?

My game just crashed while searching for a match, it then immediately needs to waste 10 minutes with a patch afterwards. This isn't the first time this happens and the patch doesn't seem to be doing anything, is this a coincidence or has anyone else noticed this happening?

Hm... I only had kind of a comparable thing when I messed around with videos (renamed them). CoH2 didn't find them, crashed and Steam automatically downloaded the videos.
So maybe one of your files was damaged or missing. Maybe run a scan of your hard disk for failures? Otherwise, if it doesn't happen too often it surely isn't that much of a problem?

It's not patching, it's syncing with steam cloud.

my teamate's alienware 6970M is also facing crashing and lagging after the patch LOL
First off all. Tripwire so gud, 10 ammo for a whole dead squad ? + sight.
Vehicle capture point can win games, blitzkrieg save a tank. Fair Deal i think
