Hey all,

I really like the elite troops doctrine so I've purchased it a few days ago.

I am currently struggling to play with it because of the new mechanics and play style I have to adapt, I either lose really bad in the early game or steamroll my opponent with panzers and the tiger ace.

What is the general idea I have to bear in mind while playing this commander?

Also I've never used the ace before but, what are its strengths? AA, AT? Should I charge with it as the spearhead or use it long-d like a JP4?

PLUS: General question, what kinds of bulletins should I go for when playing OST or OKW? Currently I'm doing reload and accuracy for grens/volks, ISG barrage CD on OKW and MG reload on OST.

Playing elite troops is fairly simple, vet boost one mortar early on to get the mp bleed going, equip some grens with G43s etc.
But one of the biggest things to remember is to make 2 panzers and vet boost them to vet 2 to get the little bit or armor out of them and then throw the Ace out there and smack the enemy

Those are the biggest things to remember about this commander, but remember, NEVER make too much units that bleed your manpower (too many Pzgrens for example)

Using the tiger ace is easy, first use the super long range in to your advantage to kill/weaken atguns etc, and then use it to spear head an attack

Well, that commander is fine and adaptable to multiple strategies.
You can play agressive, giving vet3 to your infantry (it will delay your AT power) but if your early infantry superiority achieves more map control, it's not a problem. The G43 is a good upgrade if you go for 3x 4x gren start. Going t3 + Tiger ace is good but if you face british I'd recommend you to wait till T4 for panther and make 2 paks to counter centaur (keep them toguether and covered by inf).
On late game, if you loose a squad is less punishable since you can build a new one and give it vet3 and upgrade (you will probably float ammunition in late game).
Tiger ace is a good unit, it's better used in a deffensive way. It excels in AI and excels in AT so it's a strong unit. The main threats are mines and long range tank destroyers (Jacksons,Firefly).

Hi,

The general idea about his commander is that you focus on a very classic ostheer gameplan but you will have less but better units.
The commander is based on quick high-impact.

The 1st ability, "training troops" jump the veterancy of a unit to a high level... but for a price. The fuel cost make this ability usable twice a game but rarely more.
So you have to choose of what unit you want to raise XP
Check this

http://www.coh2.org/guides/29892/the-company-of-heroes-2-veterancy-guide

And choose wisely what unit deserves veterancy.
Dont forget one thing : the xp given is a fixed number, but the xp necessary to level up differ for each unit.
For exemple, Gren, MG42, mortar get 3 stars immediately.
Snipers get only one, P4 get 0.98% of a star, PG get 1 or 2 stars (cant remember).
Basically, the more powerful a unit is, the less star you get.
For my part i like to vetup at least a MG42, it is always useful. For the rest, be adaptative, there is no nobrainer.
Also, remember that a vet3 unit get no xp, so all xp made by killing with theses units is lost.

About upgrades :
the commander gives you stun grenades, smoke on vehicles and G43 rifles. All are very good upgrades you should use, smoke is a prized tool and the G43 allow you to specialise gren in closecombat.
Remember one thing about this commander : he has NO off map ability.
This mean two things : you have to rely on the basic rooster of the OST to clean entranched position, no bombarding AND you dont have a way to spend munition other than spamming upgrades, grenades and bunker utility.

Then the tiger.
You can see rivers of tears about the Ace in the forum and many many many rage (i am sure somebody will make a whine-post in this thread). He is even banned in some tournaments.
This bring a Vet3 tiger on the field for 800 MP and 0 fuel (quite a bargain) but cost you all your futur ressources (until the tank is destroyed) not that cheap after all. You can bring only one each game, once destroyed, forever destroyed.
Basically this is the ultimate unit, he is both Anti-tank and Anti-Infantery and does both well at a very long range. he is fast bery well armored have a bunch of life. the only weakness of the unit lies in his cost (your ressources cut).
How to use it? your main goal once it is out is to shut down the AT units of the ennemy, once it is done, simply attack everything and push the ennemy)
The main goal of the ennemy is to dammage it to either kill it (beware of mines) or forces you to retreat to repair (which takes a very long time, putting you in the difficult situation where your best unit is unusable and eat all your ressources. The later the worst.
Overall it is a very good commander that adapt to a lot of situation.

Is the -20% scatter really worth spending MP/fuel on? Everything else just benefits the barrage, which mostly helps vs weapon teams, doesn't it?

Yes, since the thing will always hit 90% of the time it is a must. If you play vs Soviets, don't waste any time on getting it. Put it behind an mg42 and see the xp flowers greeting you from nirvana.

i've tried to vet an MG42. It's even better on vet3 and you got the incendiary rounds, right from the start against any inf and light vehicles

Elite troops require some finesse to play since you only get one king tiger the whole game and the manpower cost of vetting units is so high. You want to surprise them once you get vet because if they realize what you are going it will be far easier for them to counter you since their units will be so much cheaper than yours.

One way to play is to vet an early unit and use the extra combat power to push them off the map. This can be powerful but you can usually only do 1 or you will fall behind in teching and the first t70 or m8 or whatever can push you off the field before you can get a pak out.

Another way to use them is to play normally and then use the veterancy bonus to counter what they are going. Paks and Stugs with veterancy are great because they get stun. You can really punish any player that rushes to a tank with the veterancy in this way.

No matter what you do, you generally want to play a very low upkeep strategy in order to afford the veterancy bonuses throughout the game and eventually afford that king tiger. Usually this strategy is almost super-extended tier 2. All the units are relatively cheap and the upkeep should be low enough for your manpower resourcing to still be above 220 or so a minute. Hold onto your corner of the map and slowly vet all your units especially grenadiers and give them all g43's. Once you get enough MP and points for a king tiger, be sure to have all your units healed and upgraded and make a massive all-in attack at once and cut the enemy off from their resourcing.

You need to maximize the damage the king tiger does at once because it bleeds so much resources that Its like you're losing an extra 2 or 3 models every minute in the damage to manpower income it does.
