snow layer vs. painted snow?

If you create a layer of snow over the whole map, does that mean your painted snow will never show up? Or will the layer eventually get tramped away an reveal whatever is painted below?

Likewise with splats/splines below a snow layer: will they ever become visible? Is there any point in using them?

from what i have seen so far they dont appear to show up underneath the snow.

not sure if you know tho that the snow layer can be textured altho the options are limited, its in the atmosphere settings.

if your layer of snow/mud is thin tho you can see the textures underneath, so they are kind of there tho.

Thanks. I was hoping you can paint the snow layer, but apparently it will all look like whatever texture you pick in the atmosphere editor.

But I am working with a thin layer, so maybe that will allow some variety.

yea i know what you mean, the limited options in the atmosphere settings kind of suck. it would be nice if there was an extra texture set for painting the snow layer.

Place SPLAT's on top of the snow layer to give detail. They are much better than the textures you paint. There is an "on snow" check box, which also works for the mud layer in spring/summer maps.
