Errmm... not quite...

Although the town was beyond the stop-line set for the western Allies in the German surrender at Lüneburg Heath, it and its port, its scientists, and the canal were seized by a British T-Force led by Major Tony Hibbert on 5 May 1945 This forestalled capture of the town by the Soviets, whom the Allies expected to advance from Germany to Denmark in violation of the Yalta agreement.

It is reported he drove the Panther around during a harsh Winter in 1978... I envy this man so much

I think its legal to own a tank when weapons are disabled. Or should panther be returned to its own owners, panzer division? :snfPeter:

If they are demilitarized (which was the case) he could have kept it

He had even more than "only" a panther and a flak88.

He also had a 7m torpedo and a V1.

German Bergepanzer from the Bundeswehr came for the panther.

The tank was produced by the brits after the war, then scrapped. The guy, who owns it today, bought it from the scrapyard and restored it to running order. It is demilitarized.
The officials knew about it since almost half a century. I envy this guy, because will receive now alot of damage compensation.

It's great to see these machines found in such good condition. Hopefully they will be restored and placed into a museum somewhere and the old bloke will be thanked for keeping very historically significant items safe for over half a century.

Also, with the V1, is the design on it some form of graffiti or possibly painted on by the soldiers as a form of decoration? I only ask because it gives it the appearance of a Tiger Shark.

Why do they steal his tank? This tank and the other weapons are demilitarized... Welcome to Germany.

I hope he gets his tank back some day and A LOT of damage compensation. This his grand theft panzerkampfwagen by german officials that want to adjust everything that isn't "normal". Unacceptable imo.

Looks like he restored the Panther by himself. Great work I have to say. :faint:

Picture of the same Panther taken on a british junkyard in November 1977 before transported back to Germany.
