How to start PvP as an AI player?

Don't know where to post this so putting in general discussion.

I played vCoH a little and have been with CoH2 since release. I have always played vsAI automatch or custom with a mate or two but never PvP. I have way too many hours(1962hrs!) but it's all vsAI. I have been wondering about my skill PvP but don't want to jump in and be matched against ppl way above my skill.
So.. where can I get a rundown on how matching works? Does the algorithm check your PvP time or just look at your arbitrary prestige rank?

Please don't troll me with L2P and Noob hate. Community support.. AMIRITE?!

I think you picked the right game mode in 3v3 to learn the ropes. 4v4 is just too big and 2v2 you are more likely to get rekt. after you play 10 or 20 in 3v3 try some 2v2 and 1v1.

Make sure to play as both Allies AND Axis though. IT will make both of your matchups stronger and you can switch factions when the search % is bad.

In matcmaking only important is your ladder place and win/lose streak, prestige and hours doesn't meter, however playbase is to small, so it doesn't work properly, you will play against strong and against weak players. You will never evolve until you start to play against other people, even if you lose to ppl above you skill you can still learn from it. 3v3 and 4v4 are mess, but fun mess especially with mates, try 2v2 with friend or try to find someone more experienced to play with, but only 1v1 will give the most experience in the game.

Yeah this about what I was thinking but what I'm wondering is if I will be matched with my skill as a PvP noob or will I be matched with mates of my rank/prestige when it doesn't represent my actual skill/lack thereof.

Your first ten games at every style (1s, 2s, random or arranged team), are completely random. Based on those results, you get a ranking after the tenth game.

Personally, if you've got thick skin, I'd tell you to just jump into 1v1s. If you get wrekt, so be it lol, because honestly, the worst case scenario is you lose to a total asshole, and thats it. The game will end, and there'll be no other consequences.

If you need help starting there's some beginner guides here as well that could help you out. I would say that if you can beat hard ai, you're in a decent spot to start against real players.

In 3v3 and 4v4 coordination and team work are more important than personal skill, if you choose this format - try to commune more with your allies.

Just jump straight into 1v1s and don't give up if you lose the first few games. Watch some high level streams, replays or casts to get an idea of how to play PvP.

Im happy you decided to play multiplayer! I know things can be hard out there. But you must learn through failure, there is no other way.

Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it :)

Msg me on steam if you want some arranged teamgames or anything.

Just start playing. Be ready to get owned, cause player base is low, so it's quite probable you'll be matched with well experienced players, but practice makes perfect, so...

3v3 and 4v4 are chaotic and differ a lot from 1v1 and 2v2 (and i believe 1s and 2s are more balanced than 3s and 4s), so i would suggest you 1v1 and 2v2.

Watch some casts/streams of game mode and faction you want to start playing.

When playing - try to pay attention to enemy unit timings (especially vehicles) so you could prepare counter for them RIGHT BEFORE they hit the field next game.

Make sure when you first start to stick to easier to use doctrines for example:

Shock Rifles/Guards Motor for Soviets

Fort/Breakthrough for OKW

Any Tiger Doc/Jaegar Armor for Ostheer

Infantry/Airborne for USF.

Also you have probably found out that real people don't play like the AI:

The AI techs linearly and will build units other than the best available, hence sending out M3s and T70s when the enemy has Panthers out

It does however harass very well

As to what game mode, play what you want to play

Just bear in mind that pacing changes between 1v1 and 4v4 so your build orders and strats for the 1 won't work too well in the other
