I've been gone for a while, but even when I played before I rarely made mortar teams.

Without knowing any hard numbers, my gut tells me the Wehrmacht 81mm is the best, but after that I don't really know where the other mortar options stand.

I know the US mortar halftrack was just buffed, but is it comparable to the Wehr HT? I used to love the Wehr HT in pre-WFA for dropping incendiaries on maxim spam.

I never see the soviet 82mm made, so I'm guessing it sucks. How does the 120mm fare now after its nerfs?

help me comrades

the 120 got a buff in mid range and a slight nerf in short range. The 82mm is still very good thanks to it's higher range and less scatter than the Ostheer one not to mention how powerful the precision strike is versus 4 man squads and weapon teams.

The USF HT is comparable to the Wehr HT, but is more durable.

I've played with the USF mortar halftrack a few times now. It feels inferior to the german mortar halftrack, I think the rate of fire is much lower and it might also have less range. But at least now it hits stuff, so that is nice.

German 80mm mortar is awesome. 82mm mortar is also very good; it's regular fire is a alright but it evens out with a vet ability that is borderline broken. 120mm mortar is awesome.

USF PAK howitzer and OKW leIG are also pretty damn nice now with the suppression. They are much more useful in supporting infantry pushes now and the suppression also helps when dealing with enemy mortars (slower re-position and rate of fire) I'm not sure if they fixed the PAKHowie crew bug where they don't get the 50% reinforcement decrease.

OST mortar and 120mm are really close when it come to effectiveness

id say the 120 is slightly better cus it whipes more often. but, it require commanders

OST is way mor accurate and fire alot more. also is non-doc

The Ostheer mortar is the most inaccurate mortar in the game dude, and comparing a 81mm shell to a 120mm one? What the hell.

The power of the Soviet mortars is they have longer range and are more accurate, while the Ostheer mortar has a better ROF.

Ostheer mortar:

Scatter angle:
9.0
Scatter distance:
7.0

Soviet Mortar:

Scatter angle:
8.0
Scatter distance:
6.0

120:

Scatter angle:
8.0
Scatter distance:
8.0

EDIT: This doesn't take into account how much better Precision strike is over counter barrage.

The USF MHT still doesn't seem particularly effective to me. I can't really tell if I'm just getting screwed by random chance though.

Either way, dedicating that much fuel to a mortar unit during the early-mid game as USF seems super risky to me.

I can confirm that the PakHowie reinforce bug still exists, which is a shame because the PakHowie really needs to be up close to provide fire support.

ATM I like to play LeFH as Ost because it feels that I see a lot more mortars, especially 120mm, after the march patch.
Have you ever tried LeFH in counter barrage mode? This thing is a monster.

Wow that scatter difference I mean WOW thats a huge huge HUGE issue. Its almost as if that addtional teeny tiney itty bitty accuracy difference makes up for this difference:

Reload

Ost

2.4

Sov

7.5!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its so much worse its almost inconceivable.

The old Prec strike did make it worth it. The new one is less damaging then a Riflenade...

Yeah. The difference in reload is huge. The German mortar fires a second shell before the first one even lands. I think the same differences apply to the german and USF mortar halftracks. I'm not sure about the rate of fire of the first, but the latter fires very slowly (like second shell is fired 3-4 second after the first one hits the ground).

German mortars are not to be underestimated.

And how you know that if you may not even have a single game as SU, not to mention a game with 120?

________

Double OST mortar is just amazing, that rate of fire...

Today I had 2v2 on Trois-Points.

I made 2 of them. After 10-13mins of the field they had 28kills. Quite good.
Battle position? Pff.. Literally 10secs with double mortar and it's gone.
Blob? Most welcome.

While 120 is the best, it costs 400, almost same price Ost needs to pay for two mortars.
If I had to choose between two mortars and one 120, I would go for 2 OST, they are amazing.
