God forbid we should say anything positive.

You can be "positive" all you want, but where are those 4 millions players?

Are those 4,0 million units all vCoH2 game sales or are sales of single addons like commanders, skins, AA, WFA and the base game counted together?

Game Hours don't pay the bills
Sales do
Yeah but game hours make for a healthy and strong community and potential customers for new games in a long run. Meanwhile CS:GO sold just 2 million copies more than CoH2 in 2014, but their playerbase has been increased by ~450% since the start of the year. CoH2, on the other hand, still has the same ~5000 average players ingame. You can clearly tell that people don't see a reason to stick with it.

Just a question for clarification:
Are those 4,0 million units all vCoH2 game sales or are sales of single addons like commanders, skins, AA, WFA and the base game counted together?
That would explain a lot.

It's probably mostly people who bought the game on sale for a few bucks, tried it out a bit, and moved on to something else.
This will be different from any other game because?

with 365days a year and 24 hours a day that makes for 35 millon hours of playing coh2.
now if you estimate the typical player to play the game for 10 hours that would mean that you had 3.5 millon people playing coh2 in 2014.
10 hours of coh2 may not seem much (i myself got 400) but i guess a lot of people got this game on sale, or as a gift and never even played it or just tested it for a couple of hours.

You know, proper communication, balance, less DLCs etc...

I'm enjoying the rationalisations about how the game can't possibly be successful in any way.
It's successful in a financial way.
Edit: To elaborate, i don't consider it successful game in any other way but financial. Sure, it probably raked in a lot of cash for relic and/or sega but the fact that the average player only spent a few hours on it is for me not a very good achievement gameplay wise. It means most players didn't care to dig deeper into the game.
I have no idea what the average over all game is but for me personally if i enjoy a game i sink at least 30-50 hours into it. If i play a game for 4 or 7 or 10 hours it means it got old very quickly.
