I just felt like asking you people about the KV-1 since I think it's really good and I rarely see anyone else use it.
KV-1, good or bad?

I don't like it. It is too slow to flank but the t34main gun is too flimsy to use for frontal engagements. It only works against Pivs and ostwinds but might as well get t34s then.
I see it as a big Xp pool for pak40s

The KV-1 is quite a good tank vs medium tanks but the slow speed and under powered gun means it can't fight heavy armor head on and can't flank it like a T34/76. Before the last patch both vehicles used the exact same gun profile as well so there wasn't much point in calling in the more expensive KV-1 unless you had gone T4 and absolutely had to have a front line tank to spot for your SU-85s. With the nerf to the T34/76's rate of fire this patch the KV-1 might be a bit more appealing but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

It's a nice AI tank and if you play 1941 TOW you will see how scary this thing was then
However it lacks punch versus late game heavies
Backed with SU-85s and or B-4s it can take point though

I like it. You need to play with T2 and possibly get T4 later on for SU-85, but the tank itself is pretty ok, reasonably priced and quite durable. More firepower then T34/76 now as well.
If it only had vet bonuses that actually mattered(you know, like any axis tank) it would be perfect.

They are great within their doctrine, but as a stand-alone tank, they're just ok.

I like pairing the Counterattack Tactics commander with T2 and T4. Cons/Maxims -> AT Gun -> Shock or Two -> T4 -> SU85 -> KV1.
T4 lacks a main battle tank, which the KV1 fills in nicely. This is one of my favorite strategies (and, in my opinion, one of the strongest builds for 2v2 and up).

I like the KV1, it can take a lot of punishment, especially because of its high frontal armor, but when dealing with heavy tanks, it works better supported by SU85s or ATGs.
