Poker, Darts, Snooker.
Consider those three games are hosted on espn channels one time or another. Whether or not you can call them "real sports" is as trivial as arguing whether eSports are real sport.
Labels are dumb, don't buy into them.

It's just like chess. I played on the chess team (as captain 1st board woot!) in high school. Since we went to competitions and had a largish budget.
It was kind of technicality and kind of not. It's a gray area. But no one really cared either. It was just a label.

Too many people mistake atheletic activity for sports. Most athletic activites are sports aswell. But far from all sports are athletic activites.
The Competition is just the part of sports where winners are decided and medals handed out.
For me the issue with E-sports is not wether it is a sport or not (many more sports are not atheltic) but rather how it can be institutionalized. Devs have too much power for it to ever be a serious sport.
Balance is too much of an issue, it is impossible to get a fully fair comptetition in which no side could claim to be unfairly treated unless you get a totally symmetrical game.
As I see it E-sports is going to have a hard time getting out of the real of sports entertainment and into proper sports.
This being said many leagues are very strong and still have questionable fariness. Just take any sport that doesn't adhear to WADA regulations. Not a bad bunch to be in.
