It would be nice if we could be able to ban certain posters and invis their forum posts so we don't have to read their garbage all the time.

Just saying.

wait because you don't agree with something we should get rid of it. but more importantly i think you may be using the wrong word. do you mean doing client side so only you cannot read there posts? if so its called an ignore list, not necessarily a bad idea.

An ignore list would indeed be a nice idea =)

I'm pretty sure there's some dirty hack that exists so that you can't see the posts from certain users you can do client side, but it's not really a solution. You still have to deal with everyone quoting said dick.

you know instead of responding to said troll you can ignore them. :D
by client side i meant in more rough meaning of it. meaning that it wouldn't invis it for everyone just you. instead of removing there post from everyone's view.

you could probably write a greasemonkey script... and when you do, you can also include all posts that quote his post... it's gonna get difficult though if someone references his posts without quoting or something similar...

Hi all, ty for replying. Yes, I do mean a client side solution that is customized to your account if it possible.

Assuming that in your model you retrieve all the posts that belong to a certain forum thread you could include an extra condition in your query that specifying that the poster_id IS NOT IN your ban list.

I like this website but I feel that some members of this community are spamming useless crap all the time trying super hard to troll everyone and I would just want to NOT VIEW them. I don't have a problem with other's people opinion but I hate seeing these wannabe trolls.

Cheers

And as an extra feature, when a certain number of people have ignored the offender, just ban him/her :D

that is a road i don't want to see this forum go down. (that road can lead to no where good.)

Idea is good, makes moderation easier and would make a ban more democratically.

I will keep this idea in my mind.

oO
I don't say the system will do the ban. At the end it will always be a mod.

Personal ban list -> makes post invisible for user -> get on a "high user attention" list for admins.

But its nothing written, just in my head :p

yes, so a guy who is active at the forums will have always a high chance then to be on a "high user attention"-list.

would be the first e-gaming site then where democracy works.

well, gl with this idea then.

sure, active users get always attention :p

your argumentation starts to get .. some kind of weird .. lol, you compare the system with what? with regular behavior? this way is better than the regular one .. i think we agree on this.

i never said its the perfect system, all i said its more democratically than the "regular" one and makes moderation easier

I was not talking about the internet specifically, so that assumption is untrue. :D I am merely stating the more power you have the more tempted you are to "intervene" and do whatever you like even when the rules state otherwise, which makes the whole system completely flawed on a forum. MVGame
