Is custom map download in public games supported?

Hi.
I haven't found much info regarding this although I'm sure it has been brought up already, but I'll ask anyway :)

So say I join a public server and they intend to play a custom map I don’t have, does the game support me downloading that map while I wait in the server lobby or do I have to exit the game, go into Steam Workshop and download that map manually?

It seems that you can download the map when you enter a lobby, which is amazing.

yesa it seems so as i see people who have custom maps in lobby.

I tried this with a friend last night: we tried a custom map I've built but it's not uploaded to Steam Workshop yet (I have it locally on my machine) and he did not get an option to download it. We got a warning sign on the Start button saying basically that he did not have the map.

So my theory is that this might work IF the map is uploaded to steam :)

Would be a great feature to have, it would increase the chance of getting community maps played.

If you join a custom game with a custom map that is hosted on the Steam Workshop, the game will automatically download it. (There is a download progress indicator at the top right of the player slot - you can even watch other players download.)
