Case Elite 334 (Chassi)
Antec VP550P 550W
AMD FX-6100 3.3Ghz
MSI 760GM-E51 DDR3
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3
SEAGATE Barracuda 7200 1TB HDD
Asus GTX 560TI

My current PC is just a pile of manure and I'm thinking about upgrading it. Since I'm not a rich Norwegian like TheChillty nor having parents to pay my way I have to choose my new hardware carefully and pay attention to my budget.

What do you guys think about i5-3570K as a CPU worth buying for CoH2? I'd prefer high/ultra settings. And about GPU, what's your opinion about GTX 660TI vs. GTX 670? I'd prefer the later one (of course) but I'm not sure. Anyway, except for my crappy PC, this is what I do have:

Mouse + mousepad: Qpad 5k Pro + Steelseries 9HD

Keyboard: Logitech G19

Headset: Logitech G35

Monitor: LG 27" LED (I wanted the size but i regret the price for it)

Internet speed: 250mbit/s download and 100mbit/s upload

i5-3570k is a great cpu choice as far as i have heard, and i can personally vouch that a gtx 670 will run anything on the market at the highest settings

Thank you for your reply. I sure as hell can't run CoH on Ultra settings with my current spec if there are a lot of explosionss/tons of units. 1vs1 and sometimes 2vs2 runs smoothly but if there are a lot of fighting going on my FPS is going down the drain...

I'm not a computer expert so that is why I have to ask. Is CoH more demanding on your CPU compared to your GPU since it's an RTS game? I don't have enough money to buy both i5-3570K and gtx 670 at the same time so I'd prefer to start with the one that would benefit my computer the most. What do you think? I'd need to get a new Mobo if I get a new CPU but that doesn't matter much.

:)

The only difference is that i'm working and owns it up in poker :D

Btw, even my school laptop can run CoH at just fine graphics. So if you have a computer which can't even run an RTS game from 2005-6 then I will agree it's time to buy something new MVGame
Even some of the oldest GTX's can run CoH at high- ultra graphics. So if you want to a have a gaming PC dedicated for CoH it will be far enough with just GTX 650 or 660.

I'd go with a new cpu for 3 reasons:

1. Your graphics card is not that bad

2. It is easier and makes more sense to get a new processor and then gfx as opposed to getting the gfx card and then putting it in a different motherboard when you get a processor.

3. It seems to me the bottleneck is due to the processor and not the graphics. I could run coh on ultra with a 480 before my 670, so yeah.
EDIT: scratch that last part, on further research the 480 is better than 560TI
In general, do not get the TI

I do not understand why you cannot max out CoH on the rig you described above?

I'm not familiar with the AMD FX 6100 but I max out CoH on a Pentium G620 @ 2.5GHz and an ATI 6870.

It will even run pretty sweet on a 1.8 GhZ netbook with on board graphics.

Maybe you need to do a clean windows re-install?

the ultra option for shaders (DX10) is poorly optimised, I play on the high setting (DX9) and it's not that big of a drop in image quality.

Honestly I think your PC is decent enough and doesn't warrant an upgrade except for maybe an SSD.

Thats true, I was under the impression he would upgrade reguardless.

Whether he should upgrade is another matter entirely.

I don't know if this was an insult or not but I do have a job.

crazyguys 1st post

I agree with you, my graphic card seems to hold up right now but my CPU is working on 80-100% when I'm multitasking (playing CoH on ultra settings, streaming in HD quality, having "thousands" of things up on my web browser and having multiple applications running at the same time) and gets overheated and shuts down my computer. YES, I have cleaned out the dust in it.

Ronald Dumsfeld

It runs pretty smoothly when I have nothing but CoH up and running but I like to do several things at once. And yeah, I would like CoH to run at 60 FPS at least in ultra settings while streaming a massive 4vs4 in HD quality and doing tons of other things meanwhile (just to set an extreme example). I will probably not do this very often (speaking about a massive 4vs4) but I don't want to be prevented by my CPU if so. :)

IpKaiFung

It is decent enough if I just play a 1vs1 and have TS running at the same time but doing nothing more, it's just not sufficient when I do a lot of other things at the same time. And yes, I am getting a 240GB SSD hard drive.

crazyguys 2nd post

I would upgrade regardless, just asking for advice. :)

Thank you guys for responding! I really appreciate the helpfulness from you guys in this forum, it means a lot.
