Potentially change gear faster.
so, gear changing speed > deciding when to shift gears?
i'm not a race driver, but i dont think so...

Also holding a gear longer is not necessarily better. The configuration of my westie engine, for example, reaches peak torque at 5500, but power continues to climb (just not as fast) until the rev limiter at 7500. So it's occasionally worth holding the revs until 6500 depending what gear is above/below it, and how much torque you want in the next gear or the one below it.
A skilled driver and a short shift will probably change faster than your average wooly autobox in a family saloon.
So some people will feel the consistency from a semi auto or fully auto box in race mode will allow you to be consistently faster out of a corner than the changing circumstances of a driver with a manual.
Personally, I'm not a fan of auto boxes, never found one that I've like using.

Fully automatic cars are not faster then manuals. As they don't rev to the max.
DCT > Manual. Of course you can manually shift (with paddles or whatever) with a DCT but its optimal to shift automatically.
