after 3/25 patch: what are soviet options for winning ?

ppsh spam ?

as a soviet player, what are my best units/options for winning ?
enginners - super weak
guards w/out 100 muni upgrade
con - weak until ppsh
shock - ok (but to costly)
maxim (easily flanked and killed)

as a german player, i just need 4 pios, 4 pgren (or is there a better BO ?)

Relic have absolutely ruined the Balance of this game.
The worst Balance so far ver on CoH2.

German pioneers are the new "german shock troops".
Soviet T3/T4 insane overpriced----->Germans now have there tanks much more earlier out then soviets.
Cons are complete useless and can t even beat pios on a 1vs1 fight.

All soviet Players now only use call-in tanks because the t3/T4 is so overpriced that it isn t an Option anymore to go for them.

The game is absolutely broken.

PPSH41 spam is very map dependent. The old PPSH41 gave a good increase in short range dps, a small but noticable increase in DPS at medium range, and only cut into your dps at long range.

The new PPSH41 gives a lot more DPS at close range (<5m), gives only mediocrate extra DPS at 10m range, and completely screw your dps at range 15m and higer.

Unless you have a map where you can reliably close in on grenadiers without getting shot in the face by a LMG42, you are best to keep clear of spamming PPSH41s.

I found making heavy use of offensive maxims with guards and fast AT gun working out pretty decent.

boy....u r a rude one. i haven't really had time to play yet. i have merely read the patch notes and read some forum threads. i was hoping someone would actually be helpful with some ideas, so i could start working on a new B.O. today, and avoid wasting my time on units that just don't work anymore in the current form of the game.

please keep your rude responses to yourself.

He's not wrong, we're all learning. All units are fine, the combat mechanics have changed so its all about cover and closing distance effectively.

Edit: Cruzz, you're just mad you can't garrison snipers in M3A1s any more. :)

LOL - thx for that man. i really needed a laugh...

i understand the game will take getting used to the new change. getting used to the new way of dealing with weapon profiles and cover.

BUT - with any patch some units get broken, while other become OP. i am mainly looking for what units are broken and which units are OP (or at least more powerful)

that way i can avoid OP (powerful) units i come across and try to utilize the best unit composition i can.

In all honesty it looks as if Pioneers are pretty strong this patch. Although the firearm changes promote smart play which is a really good addition to the game.

Well on a unit to unit basis:

Engineers: Nothing special, but where they used to have an edge over pioneers, they now have to run for them.

Conscripts: Will lose to grenadiers most of the time. They have a small DPS advantage at very close range, but a decent DPS disadvantage at long range. Add in rifle nades, LMG42s and cover size (can't fit 6 men behind many of the covers in this game) and you will consistently lose fire fights. PPSH41 are covered in my earlier post.

Penal troops: Now cheaper, and worse. If you think you can use these anti-infantry specialist against grenadiers in long range fire fights you can think again! These units are now just like conscripts, but with a larger DPS advantage at close range and a bigger disadvantage at long range. To make the most out of these units, close in on the german positions, lose half your men on the way, and then hit retreat. Repeat until you have taken enough damage to gain vet3.

Guards: These mighty 360mp soviet elite soldiers are the cream of the crop! Upgrade them with 100 ammo DP28s, charge them into a pioneer squad capping your fuel and watch how they all die! The guards that is, the pios will live with 2 or so models left. At least their grenades now have +10 holy damage, which insta wipes nazi units, because we all know guard nades needed to cause more squad wipes.

Shock troopers: Don't be fooled by the muzzelflash of their weapons and the sound of gunfire when they are at medium range of their enemies. This is all just intimidation. The shock troopers don't actually fire real bullets until they are close enough to invade the germans personal space.

After the patch of 18th February 2014 I had the impression of having fun playing as german as well as soviet fraction. CoH 2 played well in a maturely balanced way. It was just fun like playing COH. Without having a Ph.D. in CoH 2 - playing and as an average player I would like to express to relic that I am more than gutted about the way this game lost its congeniality. That is only my opinion. And yes I read the patch notes and played a few games.

OR, MAYBE,

All soviet boys are used with a real easy win mode, when you just needed to spam units and run all over the place with ppshs or not, not taking into account cover, distances, etc, just screaming "ooouuraaaaahhh" and owning everything. Now, when it gets real TACTICAL, you don't like it anymore.
You found out what a FUEL SHORTAGE means, while complaining before that "the german armor is too OP" and not loking at its price.

Yes, I agree, it's harder for you now, but screaming "unbalanced", is to early for that. Grenadiers lost armor from 1,5 to 1, remember? Pios better than engeneers? Well, look at the price! Shocks and Guards? Imense prices and popcap drop. Use all these and others to your advantage. Complaining about call-ins? Well, soviet T34/85 call-in is at 9 CP!! ... you will have the best tank you can get at that moment. Germans have no tank call-in at 9 CP.

Further, I have a word for you: COVER. Use it.
