Private Messages Not Obvious Enough?

I got a PM but I didn't notice for a while because I think the only notification is the red text in the upper right. Maybe there could be a popup or something that only goes away when you dismiss it? Or something else. If I'm the only one blind enough to miss the red text then it might just be me, but other forums I go to have more notification and I find that helpful. It could also email you when you get a PM: I don't see any option in my profile to enable that so I assume it doesn't exist (although again I might just be missing it).

For me it is pretty easy to notice, but I have a habit of looking up in that corner as soon as the site loads. I always found the PM pop up extremely annoying as well as emails. However, if everyone likes that I suppose it could be added.

It could be a toggle on/off sort of thing - most forums let you toggle the email and maybe the popup thing could be toggleable too.

I think the red color doesnt really stick out that much. I think a limish green color (like on GR) or bright orange/yellow would be more obvious.

nah reds a pretty obvious colour. dont change it just learn to look at it.

I would personally hate a popup - as im popup hater

We'll add toggle mail and/or popup option when we get time, there's no reason to not do it.

agreed but please make it an option as i hate popups they annoy me to no end.

For the colour-blind among us though, red is waaaaay too washed off and insufficiently vivid to make us notice.
Here's an example taken with chrome "Daltonise" extension to give you an idea. Notice the difference between the red article title letters (which are simulated as seen by a colour-blind person) vs. the bright vivid reds in the ad which are not affected by the colour filter.

That's pretty interesting I gotta say.

I've never had a problem. But then again I have a habit of checking the news scroll on the right, and if I do that it is kinda hard to miss the red text.
