Well I think now AoE2 has a lot more players than AoE3. I think after a long period of time players will gravitate back to the game they enjoyed most within a series.

However initially yeah there will be a fall in players as naturally they will shift over to CoH2, but CoH1 won't die I think. It is purely to great of a game to do so.

I know that a lot of Quake 1 players didn't like Quake 2, and the same with Quake 2 to Quake 3. But the newer game was always the bigger one. Most of the players from the previous games played the new edition, and that's what new players also did.

Me, I was just good at all of them :p

But you just can't please everyone... the older game will always have someone preferring it over the new one.

I think it will be hard to get the Scheldt crowd to migrate.

I expect the first casualty of CoH to be 2v2AT.

I wasn't really online yet at aoe 1 but I miss zone.com for aoe2 ! I know there's some equivalents today but it's just not the same.

I think it all depends on which company ends up buying it from the sale of THQ

I hope who ever gets it decides to honor CoH fans

What happened to starcraft when starcraft 2 was released? Or C&C? Anyone got any infos about that?

For me, it all depends. A good sequel has everything the first one had, but better, so there is not really a need to go back (maybe only due to nostalgia-reasons). I hope Coh2 is that kind of sequel.

If the game is shit like C&C 4 then they stay with the old one if its good most of the players move on to the next one

Ah, you mean the gametype that usually has about 4 people on it at any one time?

Yes. There are times when there are just 2-3 teams in the queue.

Relic has talked about the development they've put into place specifically to appeal to Scheldt Annihilation players; while most discussion online revolves around Automatch-style games, the "Scheldters" are numerous and influential. I think they'll migrate, especially with the multi-version maps-- those will be huge. It allow fair maps for competitive games while also allowing imbalanced-but-interesting maps for Scheldters.

For what it's worth, I suspect that we'll see significant migration to CoH2 when it releases. Automatch will be scarce for a while in CoH, but it seems likely that some people will fall back to CoH, at least for brief periods. CoH is a game that still looks and plays great, with SIX YEARS of balance data and metagame development. CoH2 is bound to be frustrating as they work out inevitable imbalances, cheese, and bugs; some players prefer to fall back to a game without those issues and wait for resolution. Some people won't buy CoH2, or their friends won't. It won't die-- it'll attenuate and fluctuate in population, but dying isn't in the near-term future for CoH1.

If Thq can afford to pay the money for CoH 1 to keep it online we might see CoH 1 for another year .

THQ isn't going to exist for another year, let alone have any cash.

I refuse to abandon vcoh. You will prolly see mee stomping comps alone in basic matches, with smurf account named fuckcoh2, after I can't find any games nor players.

You sir, are my hero. If all else fails, I shall be alongside you, stomping Computers.
