I can't even get the Worldbuilder to open. It just crashes and gives me a windows error. How many other people are having this problem?

Great. So I guess that means there will be little support for those of us who can't get it to run. I was hoping it would be a widespread problem that would garner a fix soon. But if it is working for some people, then I'm SOL for any sorta speedy fix. Damn.

Seems like an old COH1 bug carried over to COH2.

Worldbuilder tries to load a map with the alphabetically first .module file in your Company of Heroes 2 folder. If you have for example CheatCommands Mod installed, it'll load that instead of RelicCOH2.module and crash with bugsplat.

Check if you have mods installed and relocate them while working with worldbuilder.

I actually remembered that bug OnkelSam from vCoH, and I made sure I have no mods installed. In fact, I have uninstalled CoH2 and reinstalled it to different directories (I install most games to an SSD separate to my main Steam install) to try and get it to work. This is not the problem. There is only one .module file in my CoH2 folder, and it's RelicCoH2.module.

Also, I cannot open the worldbuilder in the first place. Opening the executable immediately brings up a crash error. There's no interface at all to even get to the point of opening maps. Believe you me, if I could do anything with the program other than send Windows Error reports I'd've gone for it.

hm. Sounds like you got a corrupted file or something, maybe. Dunno =/

try this one:
http://www.coh2.org/file/2959/worldbuilder_coh_2.rar

If that doesnt help, check the warnings logs under
"...\Users\Christian\Documents\my games\company of heroes 2"
Maybe you'll find something in there or at least see how far WB executes before crashing

I was hoping it'd be as simple as that. I'd've thought a fresh install would've fixed that. Still no go. Your attached version worked exactly the same: instacrash.

I sifted through the warnings.log but I couldn't make sense of much of anything and it all appeared to be CoH2 related, not Worldbuilder related. I made a copy of it and deleted the original to see if starting up the Worldbuilder would recreate something, and it does not appear to be doing so.

It's crashing before it would even know to write to warnings.log it seems.

What was in the warnings.log from what I could tell were authentication errors and alerts that replays were of a previous version, all of which is pretty standard.

***edit

This is the generic windows error I get:

Nope, that doesn't seem to be WB related. If WB starts it writes something along these lines

I fear i am out of ideas for now.

Actually, maybe you installed Steam within your program files folder? Windows handles that folder with special care and you might not have writing permission, even as administrator.

I have, actually. I would really like to think it's that simple of a case, but I am extremely loathe to uninstall and reinstall Steam just to see if that's something that will get CoH2 worldbuilder to work. Argh, I've had a hateful relationship with Steam since it deleted an entire hard drive back in 2005 when I uninstalled it.

But for the sake of science and troubleshooting I guess I will test this out. Identifying the solution will hopefully help others with the issue or even help to get a fix released.

Fresh install (again) to a new directory that's not Program Files has done nothing.

I'm now at a loss for things to do short of reinstalling windows to see if that shakes something out. It's that or wait for a fix, but I'm not sure how long or even possible that is. I feel like it's something that's excruciatingly basic or I will just simply be unable to use the worldbuilder. (Which is incidentally and unfortunately the whole reason I got CoH2 in the first place.)

I found Noun has this posted on the Steam community page from yesterday:

1. You can start the WorldBuilder by running:
…\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes 2 - Test Build\WorldBuilder_CoH_2.exe
2. You must save their scenario in:
…\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes 2 - Test Build\CoH2\Data\Scenarios\MP\
3. You can only create MP scenarios at this time.
4. If you run the following command from their Steam install folder:
Archive.exe -a CoH2\Archives\MPScenarios.sga -e CoH2\Data
The archive tool will extract all our MP maps, which you can then load to figure out how we’ve done things.

5. When you save their scenario it will generate a bunch of files, you can:
a. Edit the .options file in NotePad for more options.
b. Create a custom minimap by creating a file called _mm_low.tga. If you add a boarder, the minimap_size in the .options file is the size in pixels of the playable area of the scenario (original size minus boarder size).
c. Create a custom preview by creating a file called _mm_preview.tga. (Usually the same image as the minimap.)
d. Create a custom loading screen by creating a file called _loading_background.tga.
6. You can create a Scenario Pack (an archive containing all scenario files including the custom ones named above) by going File->Export Package.
7. Any Scenario Packs in their …\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 2\mods\scenarios\ folder will be available in the Custom Match lobby.
8. All users must have the same Scenario Pack installed to be able to start a custom game.

I bolded the key parts: His directory is seeking a "Test Build" version of the CoH2 directory, which I have, but it is otherwise empty except for 2 Benchmark documents from April. I wonder if it's a matter of files not being in the right folder, or the program is looking for key files in the wrong place.
