Panthers were exceptionally mobile for their size and weight, because they had a big engine and wide tracks. With almost 14 HP/ton they had a higher top speed and probably better off-road performance than the Sherman (Firefly) at 12 HP/ton. And more than the IS-2 which had 13 HP/ton.

So even though historical accuracy is never leading in CoH, there certainly is some historical justification.

I honestly don't understand why people bring up historical accuracy into coh1. cus IRL the t34's had superb effective armor which is not the case in game.

It only had relatively superb effective armor at the time it first saw combat (1941), against the early war 37mm and 50mm German guns, which couldn't penetrate it at range. Once the Germans upgraded to 75mm and 88mm guns however, the T-34's armor didn't stand a chance. So the game correctly portrays T-34 armor to be inadequate against the mid to late war German AT weapons that Ostheer and OKW use.

The same can't be said for Panzer IVs having better armor than Shermans or T-34s lol
