Here is my roman of basic knowlage. (Sorry for my bad english i am native german)
1.rescources are more important than victory points at the beginning. make sure you are connected to them.
Otherwise you dont get any of it. If the secotor blinks at your map you are not connectet to the sector.
2.Dont lose men. It is always more A LOT cheaper to reinfore your men instead of replacing them. So what
to do if you only have two men left run away. You have a retreat button. Use it run like a coward you
dont get any of it if he dies like a hero. Your men gets a lot less damage wile retreating, but as a
beginner it is better to run away as early as possible.
3.Use cover in EVERY fight if possible. It makes a giant difference. It reduces the shots taken by 50% and
in green even the damage taken by 50%. Dont fight if you lose. Best example if you are supprssed, than
retreat instand.
4.Map awareness. Always have an eye on all of your men. where are they how is their health. Am i winning
the fight or have i to attack an other angle. Is he throwing a granate, is my mg getting flanked
bla bla bla.
-If you cant watch muliple places at one as i think i saw attack with all your force at one point at a
time.( As a beginner i even would tolerate blobing, just dont have a bit of distance between each of
your squads.
Side Tipps: -Personally dont use a sniper if you cant watch your regualare squads. But dont let me stop
you. It's just harder.
-Use Hotkeys for all. Know them by heart. I use the classic but i heard there are some really
good with the regulare Hotkeys. It's just what you prefere and used to.
So those are what i call the basics to have a good start against IA. Muliplayer is a totaly other world.
There is still much more like how and when to use tanks, smoke, granads, arty bla bla bla.
Hope i could help if you have questions I am AklesSwift in steam. Maybe we could make a game sometime. Good luck. tschau.

if you haven't allready, try reading some of the beginner toturials on this page.
I can recommend this one
https://www.coh2.org/guides/70864/from-recruit-to-veteran
Also while it may come off as rough, Barton is right that if you haven't allready try to play through the Campaign to get some core insight.
Other that that, watch some casts and just practice. And don't be afraid to go into automatch. Even if you get your ass resoundingly kicked in the beginning, it really is the best way to learn.
