I am the Starcraft 2 noob who made this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CompanyOfHeroes/comments/46sn9k/coming_from_sc2_can_i_get_some_help_with_some_1v1/
I was really frustrated at this game because I felt like I had no direction and my SC2 habits and mindset kept getting in the way. Out of desperation, I posted on this sub to find some hope. I got so much support and advice, and I read each post and each guide you guys linked me. I learned so much and I felt a little less burdened and overwhelmed because of you guys. I am shaking as I write this because I am so happy...I just won my first 1v1 game!
This is a link to my replay, could you please watch and give me extra tips?: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hkbxbewfmvhhzhw/MY%20FIRST%20WIN!.rec?dl=0
The game was amazing. For the longest time I was scared and just sat there, I was so full of doubt and thought I could never win, so my plan was just to play defensive and have a good learning experience instead of trying to win. I was behind for the most part but somehow I had more armor than my opponent and somehow I had a chance to win at the end. I saw that I could easily cap the Stars and perhaps hold anything he could throw at me because he was having a hard time penetrating. I thought my heart would burst as I sent three of my tanks to just charge for the crucial capture point. I don't know how to explain it. I just had this state of unreal clarity and I knew exactly what that capture point meant to my opponent and knew exactly what he would do to take it. I never felt like that before, I felt like what Rommel must have felt when he sent his boys in for the kill. I bombed that point with incendiary because I knew he would panic and send all his infantry. Then, I sent in all my armor as if I was Hitler sending his tanks in the battle of the Bulge. Just a mad attack. I could not believe what I was doing when I selected my three tanks and A-Moved. I was committing to something, like a marriage but more manly. The only game that has given me goosebumps like this is Brood War/SC2. But this game really is a step above. Because I truly felt it was more of a battle of the minds than just who can click faster (I am slow still since I do not know all the hotkeys).
Once my three tanks arrived, there was a lone panzer and three of my tanks surrounded it and killed it while my infantry blew up his engine. He promptly left after his tank died and he had only 20 points left. I actually yelled when he left. Yelled in victory.
I just want to say that this game is a true gem. It's epic when you are pitted against an opponent and both of you are trying to control your troops to victory. I still have chills. Thank you again, I really appreciate /u/account_eliminator , /u/luger33 , /u/luger33 , /u/handy_banana , and /u/renvitros for taking the time to help me out. I really appreciate your kindness.
One funny part during this battle. During the end when he pushed the middle Star, I panicked and I accidentally incendiary bombed my own tanks...I was shaking pretty bad because the game had me so hyped and it was so intense.
