Your opponent was quite inexperienced, and allowed himself to be barraged for the entire game. He made no attempt to counter you with a puma or otherwise.

Even in these ideal conditions, the mortar underperformed for its cost. Most of the damage it dealt was with white phosphorous, costing you a ton of munitions.

Any build/strategy/unit can be made to look viable against incompetent opposition. Even a four rear echelon troop start.

He could not afford a puma, all his manpower was going to reinforcement. That said, I'm not going to argue that he didn't make mistakes. The fact that a 240/40 unit can even force an opponent to invest in something significantly more expensive such as a puma is a sign of its fucking effectiveness.

Look at the post game effectiveness screen. It more than paid for itself in terms of manpower damage. Two volks squads wiped out early game and his healing actively negated in the early game. I don't know how you can argue that this unit was ineffective in this replay. Yes, it was ideal conditions but in these ideal conditions it was extremely effective.

I'm showing the strengths of the unit. White phosphorous barrage is cheap (25 munitions) and is effectively both an effectively a large AoE molotov/smoke grenade mix. Surely you can think of situations where that can come in handy?

I'm not saying the unit doesn't have a ridiculous spread on its normal mortars, because it does. I'm just showcasing the strengths of white phosphorous because quite frankly it's one of the most cost effective and powerful abilities in the game. (Pretty sure Sherman/M8a1 pay about the same for their regular old ass smoke barrage)
