Pretty terrible game on my behalf. Started out very poorly, as I wanted to get a hold of the church in the middle with an mg but failed. Tried re-positioning the mg multiple times but couldn't get it setup where I actually wanted to. I ended up not getting hold of my side of map as a result. Mid-game rolled around and I had nothing to show for it. I built an AT-gun to try and prep. Started to lay down some mines too. Ended up fielding a cromwell but lost it very shortly due to poor map awareness. At the point when I lost my cromwell, I was very concerned because I didn't know how to counter their amassed infantry. I had already lost a mortar emplacement and I didn't want to bother laying down a bofors that would end up getting destroyed as well. I thought about building a centaur but figured that wouldn't be useful when it came to dealing with their armor. I honestly didn't know what do.
So, naturally, I called in a Sexton in attempt to start barraging their bases. I could rarely fire a full barrage though as I would have to retreat it when they came hunting for it. I needed to try and get 1 of the 2 points they had locked down. I attempted for the most western point as it only had one Schwer Panzer base guarding it. I knew I would need some help taking it down and didn't have enough armor to do anything, so I just called in the best that I could which was the valentine. As soon as I started to cap the ammo point before the VP, i got hit with a p4 and some infantry. Didn't do well in that engagement either.
Basically, at this point, i knew the game was over. I didn't have anything to counter their armor that well. As they tended to blob their infantry, my infantry grenades and gammon bombs seemed to be doing ok at this point. I built a forward command base and upgraded it with the retreat point to have it shortly destroyed afterwards by an mg. That was pretty embarrassing.
The final moments were just a mad dash of trying to move units around in attempt to get one of the 2 vps they had. I carelessly lost my sextons and just floundered after that point :/
Things I want to improve from this match:
- Positioning on maps - knowing where to setup mgs to establish footholds that make sense without being too aggressive or too defensive
- How to recover from early setbacks, particularly, being able to successfully lure the enemy away from their fortifications and capitalize on that
- Not wasting resources - i setup a few fortifications that I thought would last longer but ended up losing them very soon, causing a heavy waste in manpower
- How to know when to buy armor - i felt like this match I was just calling in armor as I could and never saved up for an appropriate unit that I actually needed
Thanks!
